Mass technical inspection of vehicles

Deputy Minister for the Development of Communities and Territories Serhiy Derkach said that Ukraine plans to introduce mandatory technical inspection for all vehicles, including passenger cars.

Currently technical inspection in the country applies only to commercial trucks and buses, while in the European Union this requirement extends to all types of vehicles.

"This will be a politically difficult document, but we are working to make it happen"

– Serhiy Derkach

Roadside traffic control

The ministry plans to introduce roadside technical control: services will be able to stop vehicles on the highway and thoroughly check their technical condition following the example of European countries.

Changes for imported cars and certification

The agency is preparing a draft law that will change the approach to certification of used cars upon import. The current procedure is considered ineffective, often vulnerable to corruption risks and has no analogue in the EU.

"We will change it to mandatory technical inspection. In other words, a used car, when imported into Ukraine, will undergo not certification but an initial mandatory technical inspection."

– Serhiy Derkach

Derkach added that the transition will take place gradually and should bring the system into line with European standards.
