On December 18 Brussels was transformed into an arena of large-scale confrontation. Thousands of farmers on hundreds of tractors blocked the European Quarter, where EU leaders had gathered for a summit. The main target of the protest was the trade agreement with the Mercosur bloc (Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay), which, according to the farmers, would destroy European agriculture.
The Netherlands will allocate an additional €700 million to Ukraine for 2026 from unspent budgets of the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The decision was taken after the government faced parliamentary criticism for refusing to increase support for Kyiv.
The Ministry of Finance announced the launch of a procedure to exchange state derivatives from 2015. Investors were offered the option to swap GDP-linked warrants for new eurobonds and to receive cash payments.
Ukraine synchronized its sanctions with the United States and introduced new restrictions targeting Rosneft, Lukoil, and Russians who organize the killing of Ukrainians with drones. President Zelensky emphasized that the sanctions are significantly depriving Russia of money.
According to the documents, the goods were declared as a fuel additive, but Turkish customs confirmed the shipment contained undenatured ethyl alcohol and methanol. The consignment’s value is about UAH 3.5 million; a criminal case has been opened.
