Artem Dovbyk is ready to move to Genoa. According to exclusive data from insider Nicolò Schira, the forward agreed to a contract with Genoa until 2031 — one year loan plus a four-year contract if the purchase option is activated. "Rossoblu" is already negotiating with Roma regarding the terms.
But the player's agreement is not yet a deal. This is where the main conflict of this transfer begins.
What Roma wants and what Genoa offers
According to Gianluca Di Marzio and Transfermarkt World, Roma is open to parting with Dovbyk, but prefers to sell him outright — or at least tie the loan to a mandatory purchase clause. Genoa, on the other hand, insists only on an optional purchase right, with no guarantees.
In parallel, as Sport-Express reports, Dutch Ajax has already sent Roma an official loan proposal — and encountered the same condition: without a mandatory purchase clause, the Romans won't let the player go. This means that Genoa is effectively competing not only for Dovbyk, but also for the deal formula that Roma categorically refuses to ease.
Why Dovbyk needs this transfer
The 2025/26 season turned out to be catastrophic for the forward due to circumstances. After 12 goals in 32 Serie A matches in his debut season, he suffered an injury in January 2026 in a match against Lecce and was effectively sidelined. For the entire season — only three starts.
Meanwhile, Roma was taken over by Gian Piero Gasperini, whose attacking system has already found a new favorite — Donell Malen scored 14 goals in 18 matches after the new coach's arrival. There seems to be no place for Dovbyk in this scheme.
Genoa is ready to guarantee him a central role — a detail far from secondary for a player after a difficult season and exclusion from the team's plans.

The De Rossi factor
It was Daniele De Rossi who in the summer of 2024 insisted on signing Dovbyk for Roma for €30.5 million plus bonuses. Now, heading Genoa, he is personally pressuring the forward to convince him to move to Genoa. This is not just a transfer — it's an attempt at redemption: both for the player and for the coach, who was sacked by Roma in October 2024.
What this means for the national team
Dovbyk is 28 years old. To regain form and a place in the national team, he critically needs playing time — regardless of which club it is. Genoa is not a top-tier club, but guaranteed starter status in Serie A is better than a bench in Rome.
- Player's agreement — yes (contract until 2031, loan + 4 years)
- Roma's agreement — in principle yes, but only with mandatory purchase
- Genoa's offer — only optional purchase
- Competitor — Ajax with a similar offer
If Genoa does not agree to a mandatory purchase clause, Roma may well reorient towards Ajax or completely open negotiations with foreign clubs — such a scenario is considered a priority at Trigoria. Is De Rossi's club ready to raise the stakes — and when will Roma's patience run out?
