Law enforcement agencies have initiated a pre-trial investigation into the deaths and injuries of Ukrainian soldiers due to a Russian shelling in the Dnipropetrovsk region. This was reported by the press service of the State Bureau of Investigations.
“According to preliminary information, on November 1 at approximately 17:00, the enemy launched a missile strike on the location of Ukrainian troops. As a result of the attack, there are casualties and injuries,” the publication states.
According to the State Bureau of Investigations, their investigative operational group arrived at the scene of the attack immediately, conducting necessary actions to establish all the circumstances of the tragedy.
“In particular, the investigation is checking whether safety requirements for personnel were adhered to during the air alert and whether the shelter for the military was properly organized,” the agency notes.
The investigation is being conducted under the article concerning negligent treatment of military service in conditions of martial law.
The maximum penalty is eight years of imprisonment.
“As a result of the enemy strike, both military personnel and civilians were affected. The enemy used two ballistic missiles and three strike drones ‘Geran/Gerbera’ (the type of missiles is being confirmed),” the Eastern Regional Prosecutor's Office adds.
On the eve, the military group “East” reported that on November 1, the Russians carried out a combined strike on Dnipropetrovsk region, and among the injured and dead are Ukrainian defenders.
Later, TSN journalist Dmytro Syatnenko stated that the Russians struck with ballistic missiles at Ukrainian defenders when they were gathered for an award ceremony on the parade ground, and that among the deceased is his brother Volodymyr.
“My brother was killed on Saturday. He had been fighting since the 23rd. He went through hell in Krynkivka, Kurakhove, Maryinka, Krasnohorivka… He was killed by the Russians. But not on the battlefield. In the deep rear. He and his comrades were gathered on the parade ground to be awarded. They gathered the best. The best pilots and infantrymen of the brigade (referring to the 35th Marine Brigade – Ed.). By order. In an open area. Ballistic missiles came. The story of negligence (or not negligence) repeated itself,” the media figure recounted.
