On the night of May 14, Russia launched a massive combined attack on Kyiv: ballistic missiles and strike drones. According to the State Emergency Service (DSES), 15 direct hits from missiles and 23 UAVs were recorded at 24 locations — plus debris from destroyed targets at an additional 18 locations. This is one of the densest strikes on the capital in recent months.
What happened in Darnytskyy
The main center of destruction — a panel nine-story building in Darnytskyy district. A rocket destroyed 18 apartments, with some structural elements collapsing. Rescue workers extracted 28 people alive from the rubble, but the search continues: according to President Zelensky, the fate of at least 10 people remains unknown.
It was here that the body of the fifth victim of the attack was found — a 12-year-old girl. This was confirmed by Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
«Rescue workers continue to clear the rubble, where people may still be trapped»
Vitali Klitschko, Mayor of Kyiv
Scale of losses as of 1:00 PM
- 5 killed in Kyiv, including a 12-year-old girl
- ~40 wounded in the capital, plus 7 more in Kyiv region
- Among the injured — a one-month-old infant
- More than 10 people — missing, search continues
Attack against the backdrop of negotiation pressure
The strike occurred at a moment when diplomatic pressure regarding negotiations is intensifying. The massive attack on Kyiv's residential sector — not the first or second such episode this year — raises a practical question about the logic of the strikes: they do not destroy military infrastructure, but rather systematically target civilian housing in residential neighborhoods.
In addition to Darnytskyy, damage was recorded in Dniprovsky, Solomyansky, and Holosiivsky districts of the capital, as well as in six districts of Kyiv region — from Bucha to Bila Tserkva.
If the number of missing persons does not decrease by evening, it will mean that the rubble in Darnytskyy is hiding new victims — and the final count of this night is not yet settled.
