A massive Russian attack, which the Main Intelligence Directorate warned about the day before, is unfolding throughout Ukrainian territory in the morning. The heaviest consequences are currently being recorded in the western part of the country.
In Rivne region, the deaths of three people have been confirmed. Details about the circumstances and location of the strikes are being clarified by local authorities. This is not the first deadly strike on the region, which Russia traditionally targets during mass attacks on infrastructure.
In Kolomyia district of Ivano-Frankivsk region, emergency power outages have been introduced — a result of damage to energy infrastructure from the strikes. The scale of outages and timeframes for restoring supply are not being specified at this time.
The GHI had warned in advance about Russia's preparations for a massive strike, which allowed for the activation of air defense. However, even advance readiness did not rule out casualties and destruction — this raises the question about the sufficiency of available air defense weapons to protect the entire line of rear regions.
The attack is ongoing. Whether this wave becomes a catalyst for accelerating partner nations' transfer of air defense systems will depend on whether allies record the number of casualties as sufficient argument for increasing the pace of deliveries.
