The Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov announced the achievement of an agreement with Russia regarding a new prisoner exchange. He wrote about this on social media.
"Following the instructions of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, I have conducted consultations in recent days with the assistance of partners in Turkey and the UAE regarding the resumption of exchanges and the release of our citizens from Russian captivity," Umerov reported.
According to him, the negotiations concluded with "the parties agreeing to activate the Istanbul agreements" – this concerns the release of 1,200 Ukrainians.
The head of the National Security and Defense Council noted that technical consultations will soon take place to resolve "all procedural and organizational issues."
"We are working tirelessly to ensure that Ukrainians who are to return from captivity can celebrate the New Year and Christmas at home – surrounded by family and loved ones," the official added.
