President Volodymyr Zelensky seeks to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump as soon as possible to finalize work on an agreement to end the full-scale war. A meeting on November 27, on Thanksgiving, is possible. This was told to Axios by Head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak.
State of the negotiations
U.S. and Ukrainian delegations have largely agreed on most points of the peace plan. However, the Ukrainian president wants to personally discuss territorial concessions with Trump. An American official confirmed that talks with the Ukrainian side are underway about a meeting this or next week, but the exact date has not yet been set.
Trump is scheduled to leave Washington on the evening of November 25 and plans to return to Mar-a-Lago by November 30.
"I hope President Zelensky's visit will take place as soon as possible, because it will help President Trump advance his historic mission to end this war. Because [Trump] can say: 'Look, our position with the Ukrainians is confirmed and agreed. We support it and are now continuing to speak with the Russians.'"
– said Yermak, adding that a meeting on the holiday has symbolic significance.
Zelensky's statement on sensitive issues
During a speech at an online meeting of the coalition of the willing, the president confirmed his readiness to meet with Trump.
"Ukraine has a framework developed by our teams in Geneva. This framework is on the table, and we are ready to move forward together with the U.S. and personally President Trump, with Europe and other partners. There are sensitive points to discuss, they still exist. And we believe that the involvement of European leaders could be useful"
– said Zelensky.
Context
The Financial Times reported that during talks in Geneva the peace plan was reduced from 28 to 19 points. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry explained: the most sensitive issues will be agreed personally by Zelensky and Trump.
The White House confirmed that several points of the peace plan still need work, and Trump is optimistic. According to Axios, the Ukrainian delegation led by Budanov is conducting negotiations in Abu Dhabi with representatives of Russia and the U.S.
