November 21 – OpenAI has opened access to group chats in ChatGPT for all users, including those using the free version. Now several people can communicate in one chat along with the AI assistant, discussing projects, planning trips, or working on documents. This is reported by TechCrunch.
How it Works
Up to 20 people can be invited to a group chat – either by sending them a link or adding them manually. Each participant creates a short profile with a name and avatar. Meanwhile, personal settings and chat history with the bot remain private. If someone is added to an existing conversation, a new separate chat is automatically created.
ChatGPT only responds when mentioned with a tag. It can summarize discussions, search for needed information, suggest solutions to problems, or even react to messages with emojis.

Context
Recently, OpenAI announced a free version of ChatGPT specifically for teachers with the GPT-5.1 model. Additionally, a new GPT-5.1 model has appeared in ChatGPT. Interestingly, in Japan, a woman even ended a three-year relationship with her fiancé and "married" ChatGPT.
