Insider Ahmed Qwaider, who previously accurately revealed the characteristics of Samsung flagship devices, published renders of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 in four colors: Lavender, Cream, Pistachio, and Graphite. It is unknown whether the images are official company materials or compiled based on leaks — Samsung has not confirmed this.
But more importantly, the color palette did not appear in a vacuum. This summer, Samsung is launching two "book-style" foldables simultaneously for the first time in its history — the standard Fold 8 (wide format with a 4:3 internal screen) and the Fold 8 Ultra. The Fold 8 Ultra gets Cream, Graphite, Green Shadow, and Violet Shadow — darker, "premium" shades. The standard Fold 8 — playful Lavender and Pistachio, seemingly deliberately reflecting the image of a more accessible and personal gadget.
Color as differentiation between models
All three foldables — Flip 8, Fold 8, and Fold 8 Ultra — share two base colors: Cream and Graphite. The rest — a zone of differentiation. The Fold 8 Ultra is positioned as a more business-oriented option, while the standard Fold 8 gets a more playful palette. Such division is rarely coincidental: Samsung gives buyers a color signal about where the boundary between models lies — even before they see the price.
Regarding the controversial Cream: according to Android Central, in some regional leaks this color appeared as "Butter" or "Lavanda" — a possible difference in localization of names, not different shades.
The format changed — and that's what explains the hype
The colors made headlines not on their own. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide uses a 7.6-inch internal display in 4:3 format — something Samsung has never released before. The initial production plan of 500,000 units was revised to 1.5–2 million — potential growth of 4 times.
The reason is not just demand. Apple's iPhone Fold is expected in September, and Samsung is launching the wide-format Fold 8 as a direct response to this challenge. According to a leak from PhoneArena, the starting price of the Fold 8 Wide could reach around $1,800 — precisely due to pressure from Apple.
What remains unknown
Samsung's Unpacked event is expected in London on July 22 — along with the Fold 8 Ultra and Flip 8. Some colors will likely be exclusive to Samsung's online store, but which ones exactly is not specified.
"Lavender and Pistachio generate more hype than the Ultra model"
Geeky Gadgets, analysis of pre-launch leaks
Interestingly, the wider Fold 8 — with a lower price and brighter colors — attracts more attention than the flagship Ultra. If Samsung keeps the Fold 8 Wide price below $1,800 and preserves Pistachio not just as an online exclusive, this device could make foldables a mainstream choice for the first time, rather than a niche status accessory. If not — Lavender will remain just a nice color for a press release.
