The head of government explained that having a program with the IMF serves as confirmation of the country's macroeconomic reliability and raises its credit ratings. According to him, this can lower borrowing interest rates and positively affect financial market sentiment.
Financial history
The previous 40-month ECF/EFF program for Moldova was approved in December 2021 and in May 2022 was expanded to $805 million. In December 2023 a separate agreement under the RSF (Resilience and Sustainability Trust) was approved.
As of December 2024, the total amount of assistance under these instruments stands at about $810 million. The last two tranches totaling $170 million were not disbursed due to a change in priorities.
- On 26 November, Ukraine and the IMF agreed a new four-year Extended Fund Facility (EFF) program worth $8.1 billion.
