When and what
This year, spring break in Kyiv schools will run from 23 to 29 March, UNN reports, citing the Kyiv City State Administration. At the same time, the city announced a number of educational initiatives for the holiday period to preserve in-person learning and minimize academic losses.
Programs during the break
Students will be able to attend learning clubs, compensatory classes to make up missed material, as well as informational, educational and formative activities. Extracurricular education centres will also operate.
"The decision to retain the spring break is a coordinated position of the city's entire education team. When the educational process was resumed in February after the forced break, this issue was discussed with the capital's educational community, in particular with the Association of School Principals of Kyiv."
— Valentyn Mondryivskyi, Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration
Why this decision was made
Combining the break with organized activities makes it possible to address two practical tasks: ensure safety and in-person learning amid a changing security situation, and purposefully work on learning gaps that arose after the forced interruptions in February.
What this means for parents and schools
For parents — a need to make small adjustments to daily routines: check club schedules, arrange care, or take advantage of the school's offerings. For schools — the task is to effectively concentrate compensatory work so that after the break the educational process continues in line with curricula and with regard for the security situation.
