Senator Richard Blumenthal called for the replacement of U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, saying they are not impartial in negotiations over Ukraine.
Criticism of the envoys
Blumenthal expressed concern that the administration’s appointees may be acting on behalf of Moscow instead of serving as neutral negotiators.
They seem to be biased against Ukraine

Assessment of Trump’s actions
The senator reported deep alarm that the Donald Trump administration is allegedly leaving Ukraine without proper support, pressuring Kyiv to make territorial concessions, and cutting military aid.
According to Blumenthal, the peace talks are one-sided: demands are being placed largely on Ukraine, while Russia is not being required to abandon its positions.
- On December 8, Volodymyr Zelensky rejected the idea of ceding territory at Russia’s demand and stressed that such a concession is unacceptable; he said the U.S. is attempting to find a compromise.
- On December 9, Donald Trump said he believed it was time for elections in Ukraine and suggested that Zelensky would be the winner; the Ukrainian president replied that he was ready for such a step.
