Spain will allocate over 600 million euros for military aid to Ukraine over the next month. This was announced at a briefing with President Volodymyr Zelensky by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.
Structure of the Aid Package
According to Sanchez, the country will direct 615 million euros for military assistance to Ukraine as part of a new package:
300 million euros — for the dispatch of new defense equipment under a bilateral security agreement. “This package will include the dispatch of new defense equipment worth approximately 300 million euros, as part of our bilateral security agreement, which includes 1 billion euros that we have also committed to provide this year to Ukraine in the field of security,” Sanchez said.
100 million euros — contribution to the PURL initiative for the procurement of American weapons for Ukraine.
215 million euros — funding through the SAFE instrument created by the European Commission. This funding will enable the financing of the production of counter-drone systems, radars, and air surveillance means.
Additional Reconstruction Support
In addition to the military package, Spain will launch a new financial support instrument worth 200 million euros to facilitate the reconstruction of Ukraine.
“This instrument will be coordinated by the new Spanish Office for the Reconstruction of Ukraine, which was opened two months ago, and will allow our companies to take direct and competitive part in the reconstruction process,” Sanchez emphasized.
