U.S. President Donald Trump called for the airspace over and around Venezuela to be considered closed amid the confrontation between the two countries. The politician wrote this on his social network Truth Social.
"To all airlines, pilots, drug traffickers and human traffickers: please consider the AIRSPACE OVER VENEZUELA AND AROUND IT COMPLETELY CLOSED."
– Trump said in all caps.
The U.S. leader did not provide further details.
The aircraft-tracking service Flightradar24 shows that there are still planes over and near Venezuela.
Context
Sources speaking to The New York Times said that last week Trump had a call with Venezuela's pro-Russian dictator Nicolás Maduro, during which they discussed the possibility of meeting in person.
According to the media, this took place a few days before the U.S. designated the Venezuelan dictator as a participant in a foreign terrorist organization.
