What was decided

In a public poll on the portal and in the “Kyiv Digital” app 57% of participants supported renaming the stretch along Mariinsky Park — from Hrushevsky Street to Park Road — in honor of people’s deputy and former Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy. The results were reported by the press service of the “European Solidarity” party and UNN.

Why it matters

The name of a street in the center of the capital is not just a sign of gratitude: it is a way to shape public narratives about parliamentarism, the Revolution of Dignity and political commitment. For an ordinary Kyiv resident it is a daily reminder of values, and for the investigation — additional public interest in the murder case.

He was a man who made a significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian parliamentarism, played an important role during the Revolution of Dignity and on matters of national identity. I am convinced that the name of a street in the very center of Kyiv will become a symbol of memory, gratitude and respect for Andriy and for those who stood in defense of our freedom and statehood.

Investigation: what is known

Andriy Parubiy was killed on 30 August 2025 in Lviv with seven gunshots. According to investigators, the suspect is a 52-year-old Lviv resident. Police considered three main versions: an intentional killing related to political activity, a possible Russian trace, and personal hostile relations. National Police chief Ivan Vyhivskyi prioritized following information about a possible Russian trace.

The SBU reported finding a weapon — a Makarov pistol with a silencer — allegedly hidden in a cache and containing the suspect’s DNA. The court repeatedly extended the suspect’s detention (the most recent extension — 18.12.2025), as reported by court registers and the media.

What’s next

The renaming may strengthen civic oversight: it keeps the attention of the public and politicians on the case. But symbols do not replace legal work — the key now is for the investigation to be brought to a final, transparent decision in court. The street name will become a sign of remembrance, but justice requires evidence and a verdict that will withstand scrutiny.
