President Volodymyr Zelensky held a phone conversation with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, during which they discussed diplomatic opportunities and the peace plan proposed by the United States to end the war.

Condolences and Support

"I spoke with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. Mark expressed his condolences regarding the horrific attack by Russia on Ternopil. 31 people died, including six children. Search and rescue operations at the site of this tragedy are still ongoing."

– wrote Zelensky.

Willingness to Work on the Plan

The president emphasized that Ukrainians want the end of the war, the cessation of killings, and a dignified peace more than anyone else in the world.

"We discussed the available diplomatic opportunities and the plan proposed by the American side. We are ready to work quickly and constructively to make it work. We are coordinating our next steps together."

– added Zelensky.

Context

Earlier, Zelensky revealed details of a conversation with U.S. Vice President Jay D. Vance: "We talked for almost an hour and agreed that together with America and Europe, we will work at the advisory level to make the path to peace truly viable."

The Axios publication released a 28-point peace plan from President Donald Trump regarding Ukraine, which includes territorial concessions, security guarantees, and economic components. Reuters reported, citing sources, that the U.S. threatened to halt intelligence sharing and arms supplies to Ukraine to force it to agree to the framework of a peace deal.

Zelensky also held talks with the leaders of France, Britain, and Germany regarding the American plan. The parties coordinated further steps and agreed on joint team efforts.

Trump set a deadline for Ukraine to accept the peace plan.
