What to know before going on the ice
Plan ahead: buy tickets online to avoid queues; check operating information in case of possible outages. Many locations offer concessions for veterans, servicemembers and families — bring documents.
Safety and comfort: dress in warm layers, keep children close to an instructor or a "penguin" helper; on outdoor rinks, take weather conditions into account.
"The ice rink is a small but important marker of the return to normal life: safety, accessibility and shared values — things city project organizers work on."
— coordinator of a city cultural project
