Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk advanced to the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Cincinnati. In the round of 16 match, the Kyiv native defeated Russia's top player Mirra Andreeeva.
Kostyuk lost the first set with a score of 4:6, but in the next two sets left her opponent no chances — 6:0, 6:2.
In the quarterfinals, the Ukrainian will play against the winner of the Coco Gauff (USA) – Maria Bouzkova (Czech Republic) pair.
Svitolina out of the tournament
Another Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina withdrew from the tournament before the third round due to a right ankle injury. According to her, the problem aggravated during her second-round match, and she did not have time to recover before the next match.
Kostyuk continues a season in which she has already won the biggest title of her career at a WTA 1000 tournament. Her next match in Cincinnati will show whether she can maintain her form against one of the favorites in the quarterfinal pair.
