The Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine reported that Tetyana Tarasyuk brought the country its first medal of the new biathlon season, finishing second at the junior stage of the IBU Cup in Goms, Switzerland.

Result in the sprint

In the 7.5 km sprint race the Ukrainian had one miss and finished 27.5 seconds slower than the winner. She shared the silver with Frenchwoman Mela Correia — both athletes posted the same time.

First medal of her career

The medal is Tetyana Tarasyuk's first at an international competition in her career.

Earlier, Ukrainian biathletes had begun the season with poor relay performances at a World Cup stage.
