Poland has informed the Lithuanian side that it will not open the border with Belarus in a show of solidarity.

Latvia and Estonia have promised to close border crossing points with Belarus if necessary, thereby expressing support for Lithuania. This was announced by the country's Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė, as reported by LRT.

“The Poles have already shown solidarity with us and have not opened the borders, even though this was planned a week ago, so such decisions have already been made. I received similar assurances from the Prime Ministers of Latvia and Estonia,” she stated.

According to her, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk personally promised not to open border crossings after they were closed in mid-September.

“The Prime Minister has indeed promised me all week that we will talk again, and I am very grateful to Poland for hearing us,” Šimonytė said.

The countries expressed their readiness to show solidarity if Lithuania realizes that it “is not controlling the situation” and the Belarusian regime continues its attacks.

The Lithuanian Prime Minister also noted that the country is currently not negotiating with Belarus, but is only sending signals regarding the reasons for closing border crossings. Lithuania has engaged all diplomatic channels but is waiting for the first step from Minsk.

“We are not negotiating. We are clearly sending the signal that the borders are closed due to the hybrid attacks that have occurred. As soon as this process ends and the Belarusian side assures us that they will not continue, we will also make positive decisions,” emphasized Šimonytė.
