Ukraine's Security Service and the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine prevented a terrorist attack that the FSB of Russia was preparing against one of the representatives of the Russian opposition movement in Kyiv. This concerns Stepan Kaplunov, deputy commander for combat operations of the Russian Volunteer Corps.

According to available information, Kaplunov arrived in Ukraine for Independence Day. Several days ago, he was abducted by unknown persons in the courtyard of his own house — the commander's disappearance was reported by the RVC on September 1st.

Several days ago, the deputy commander of the RVC for combat operations, Stepan Kaplunov, was abducted by unknown persons in the courtyard of his own house. As soon as we learned of his abduction, we immediately raised the alarm and contacted the GUR, SBU, and DBR

The RVC clarified that after the commander's disappearance, they immediately contacted three agencies — the GUR, SBU, and DBR — to accelerate the search.

What This Means

The abduction of a representative of opposition Russian formations in Kyiv is an attempt by the FSB to operate on the territory of Ukraine in the same way it attempts to operate in other countries: through the liquidation or capture of people who are fighting against Putin's regime. For the SBU and GUR, this is not the first case when they have had to neutralize such operations directly in the capital.

The very fact that the special operation was prevented, rather than established after the fact, testifies to the availability of operational intelligence in Ukrainian special services either before the abduction or immediately after it.

Currently, it is unknown whether the perpetrators of the operation have been detained or whether the channels through which the FSB was operating in Kyiv have been identified. This question will determine how deeply the Russian special service managed to establish itself in the capital's environment.
