Russia has reported attacks in the Saratov and Samara regions. A Wildberries warehouse is burning in the settlement of Novosimeykin. According to Ukrainian OSINT projects Exilenova+ and Supernova+, as well as Russian channel Astra, the Saratov Oil Refinery (NPZ) is also burning and an airfield in Engels has been attacked. Subsequently, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed the hits.
The Wildberries marketplace press service and Samara region governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev confirmed the strike on the company's logistics complex. According to officials, there were no casualties.
"Logistics chains have been reorganized, receipt of supplies and shipment of orders are being carried out at other facilities," the company stated.
Saratov region governor Roman Busargin reported a drone attack and damage to civilian infrastructure in Saratov and Engels. He added that a residential building was damaged in Engels and two people were killed. OSINT footage shows a multi-story building catching fire, near which fragments allegedly fell.
What was hit
Engels is one of the main strategic aviation bases of the Russian Federation. Tu-95MS and Tu-160 bombers, which regularly strike Ukraine, are stored there.
According to analysis of footage from eyewitnesses, Rosneft's NPZ in Saratov was also under attack and subsequently caught fire. It is one of Russia's oldest oil refineries. In 2023, the refining capacity was 4.8 million tons. According to Astra's calculations, since the start of the full-scale war, the Saratov NPZ has been attacked 15 times.
Russia's Defense Ministry stated on the morning of August 2 that Russian air defense intercepted and destroyed 635 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones over 15 regions, as well as the Black and Azov Seas and occupied Crimea.
Confirmation and details
Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Robert (Madyar) Brovdi confirmed the Ukrainian strike on the Wildberries hub in Novosimeykin.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated that on the night of August 2, Ukrainian defenders attacked a number of Russian targets:
- Saratov Oil Refinery;
- Engels airfield;
- Lyudinovskaya oil depot in Lyudinovo (Kaluga region);
- storage, preparation and launch site for strike drones in the Navlya area (Bryansk region).
Context
On July 31, fires occurred following attacks on Wildberries facilities in Penza and in Sarapul in the Udmurt Republic of the Russian Federation. Russia's largest marketplace requested financial assistance from the Kremlin following Ukrainian drone attacks.
On July 25, OSINT analysts reported that a military unit caught fire in Engels following a nighttime Ukrainian attack. Prior to that, on July 17, the SBU reported the destruction of a strategic Tu-95 bomber at the Engels military airfield.
On July 8, Ukraine struck the Saratov oil refinery once again. Following this, the refinery shut down operations.
A series of repeated strikes on the same targets—the Engels airfield and the Saratov NPZ—demonstrates a systematic approach: if repairs and infrastructure restoration take weeks, the next strike simply awaits its turn.
