On Sunday, Polish police received a report of a possible plot to assassinate Prime Minister Donald Tusk and three members of the government. This was announced on the X platform by Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesman for the minister-coordinator of special services, and Karolina Gałecka, spokeswoman for the Interior Ministry.
Besides Tusk, the report concerns Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński and Minister-Coordinator of Special Services Tomasz Siemoniak. All three are responsible for the country's security, and that is the only thing publicly known so far about the circle of potential targets.
What is known and what is not
The spokespeople speak specifically of a report, not of an uncovered conspiracy. No detainees, suspects, or theories about those who ordered or carried out the plot have been made public. According to them, the police have been instructed to take action. The Internal Security Agency, Interior Ministry services, the police and the State Protection Service are gathering for a meeting.
Dobrzyński, in a comment to the Polish Press Agency quoted by Onet, declined to give details about this meeting. It is unknown whether this is verified operational information or an unconfirmed tip. It is also unknown whether any specific preparations took place.
It is therefore impossible to assess the scale of a possible plot. It is not known how many people might have been involved, where the information came from, or how reliable it is. Even if suspects appear in the case, suspicion does not mean guilt. That must be established by a court.
Context that is not evidence
Poland has been under pressure from hybrid threats for several months. On September 23, an arson attack occurred at a Starlink ground station, and prosecutors suspect Russian special services were involved. The same day, a Russian helicopter entered Polish airspace from the direction of the Kaliningrad region. On October 1, a parcel from Germany arrived at the military gendarmerie in Podkarpacie, and three people fell ill after opening it. On September 17, Tusk stated that the Kremlin is planning hybrid drone and missile attacks in the coming months on states that support Ukraine.
Officials have not claimed any link between these episodes and the current report. They should not be combined into a single picture without confirmation.
What the check will show
The coming days will answer a simple question: will the report turn into a criminal case with specific suspects? If so, prosecutors will have to make public at least the general legal classification of the offense. If not, the Polish authorities will have to explain why a meeting at this level was convened over a signal that did not pan out.
