Thermal anomalies have been detected in the area of the Tuapse Oil Refinery following reports of drone attacks. Russian sources have confirmed the attack itself, but traditionally downplay the extent of damage.

The Tuapse Refinery is not a peripheral facility. The plant processes up to 12 million tons of oil annually and supplies fuel to both the civilian market in southern Russia and military logistics in the region. It is the third most important oil refining hub in Krasnodar Krai after facilities in Novorossiysk.

Thermal anomalies in satellite imagery are a standard marker of actual fires or heat emissions from damaged equipment. Similar signatures were previously recorded following confirmed hits on the Saratov and Ryazan refineries.

A series of attacks on Russia's oil refining infrastructure has been ongoing since early 2024. According to calculations by analysts from the Kyiv School of Economics, cumulative losses of refining capacity from strikes have already exceeded 15% of pre-war levels — which theoretically affects both budget revenues and supply logistics to the front.

The practical question that remains open is whether the accumulated pressure on refining infrastructure is sufficient to change the pace of Russian advances — or whether the strikes remain symbolic as long as alternative supply routes remain unblocked?
