Ukrainian Taisiia Onofriichuk won the gold medal in the hoop final at the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championship taking place in Frankfurt. Her score of 30,700 points was the highest among all finalists.

The margin over the medalists was minimal: silver went to Italian Sofia Raffaeli (30,500), and bronze was taken by German Daria Varfolomeev (30,400). In other words, victory was decided by hundredths of a point — the competition level in the final was extremely tight.

Why this is more than just another medal

The last time a Ukrainian won at the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championship was 13 years ago: in 2013, Ganna Rizatdinova won gold in the hoop exercises. Since then, the national team has repeatedly reached the podium, but has not topped the world championship standings even once.

Here lies the practical aspect: rhythmic gymnastics is a sport where results depend not only on physical training but also on judging assessments of artistry, precision of hoop lines, and synchronization with music. Over 13 years, the judging system changed several times, and competition intensified from Israel, Italy, and Germany — countries that systematically invest in gymnastics youth development programs. Ukraine's return to the top under such conditions means that the training school not only survived but was able to compete with updated standards.

The hoop exercise was conquered by the athlete, where she scored an incredible 30,700 points and won gold, — states the message from the Ukrainian Gymnastics Federation.

The path to Frankfurt

The victory was preceded by a bronze medal at the European Championship, after which Ukraine's National Olympic Committee recognized Onofriichuk as the best athlete of May. That is, the gold in Frankfurt is not a one-time flash of form but a continuation of an upward trajectory throughout the season.

The next test will be whether she can consolidate the result in the upcoming World Cup stages and confirm stability ahead of the Olympic cycle, where it is the consistency of results, not a single successful exercise, that determines who will go to the Games.
