«Dynamo» officially postponed its home match of the first round of the UPL against «Livyi Bereh» from August 2 to December 2, 2026. A four-month difference — not a bureaucratic coincidence, but a direct reflection of how deeply the European cup schedule has embedded itself into the structure of the national championship.
Why August is occupied
The Kyiv club is already in the second qualifying round of the Europa League: July 23 and 30 — matches against Greek PAOK in Lublin and Thessaloniki. Before that, «Dynamo» overcame Romanian «Universitatea Cluj» only through a penalty shootout — 4:2, with both regular times ending 0:0. If Igor Kostyuk's team defeats PAOK, they will already play in the third round on August 6 and 13. A loss will send them to the Conference League qualification — and August will remain filled either way.
In exceptional cases related to clubs' participation in competitions under the UEFA aegis, a club has the right to initiate the transfer of a round match to a reserve date in the calendar.

What this means for «Livyi Bereh»
For a newcomer or a club without European competition burden, postponement is not simply a date change. A home or away game in August and the same game in December — different context: different team form, different table situation, different pressure. «Livyi Bereh» will face an opponent that either passes several European rounds and gains momentum, or gets eliminated and accumulates fatigue from failure — in both cases, not the «Dynamo» that should have played on August 2.
UPL President Yevhen Dykyi previously clarified: UEFA-participating clubs can claim to postpone a maximum of two matches out of the first three rounds. That is, «Dynamo»'s August slot in the championship can be reduced by one more game — and this is already laid out in the rules, rather than being a force majeure situation.
A championship that starts in December
«Dynamo» starts in the UPL from the second round — against «Veres». In fact, the club will conduct the autumn part of the season with a match in debt, completing the first round in the winter window. This is a legal and anticipated scheme — but it blurs the logic of «season start» for spectators and complicates comparison of table positions throughout the first round.
If «Dynamo» passes PAOK and reaches the main stage of the Europa League, the European cup schedule will press on the UPL calendar until February — and then the question of a third postponement will arise before the New Year.
