On Saturday evening, June 6, an accident occurred on Chervonoi Kalyny Avenue in Kyiv: an Audi passenger car swerved into the oncoming lane and collided with a truck. The driver of the passenger car was hospitalized. Regarding the causes, police remain silent for now.
What is known about the accident
According to the Main Directorate of the National Police in Kyiv, the collision occurred when the Audi was moving in traffic and for unknown reasons crossed a solid line marking. The truck, which was driving towards it, could not avoid the impact. Photos from the scene, distributed by police, show significant damage to the front of the passenger car.
As a result of the accident, the driver of the passenger car sustained injuries and was hospitalized. An investigative-operative group investigating the accident from the main police directorate of the capital and patrol police officers are working at the scene.

Police did not clarify the driver's condition or diagnosis. The truck driver is not mentioned in official reports — what happened to him also remains an open question.
"Unknown causes" as a systemic formula
The phrase "swerved into the oncoming lane for unknown reasons" appears regularly in police reports. It is technically correct at the stage when the investigative-operative group has not yet documented the facts: speed, driver's condition, technical condition of the vehicle. But for the audience, it explains nothing — and rarely receives public follow-up.
According to data from the Ukrainian patrol police, 25,934 accidents with casualties were recorded in the country in 2025 — 0.6% more than in 2024. 3,249 people were killed, and nearly 32,000 were injured. Kyiv holds a separate anti-record: the number of accidents with casualties in 2024 was the highest in the previous five years — 2,167 cases.
- Swerving into the oncoming lane is one of the most fatal accident categories: the collision occurs at the combined speed of both vehicles.
- The consequences for the truck driver are not documented in official reports — although logically he could also have sustained injuries or psychological shock.
- Whether the car had a technical malfunction or the driver was under the influence of substances or medications — the investigation will establish this, but results are rarely made public.
What's next
The investigative-operative group is obligated to establish the circumstances of the event — but a criminal case is opened only under certain conditions: death or severe bodily injuries. If the Audi driver's injuries are classified as minor or moderate, the case may conclude with an administrative protocol without public explanation of the causes.
If the driver is confirmed to have been intoxicated by alcohol or medications — this will open a criminal case and become known. If not — the details of this accident will most likely remain in the report as another line in the statistics.
