Uzbekistan has introduced a complete ban on the circulation of vapes and electronic cigarettes for the country's citizens. Violations carry criminal liability of up to five years in prison.

Details of the ban

The law, signed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, prohibits the purchase, possession, transportation, transfer, manufacture, import and export of vapes, electronic cigarettes and nicotine liquids.

Punishment and sanctions

Violators may face a substantial fine or be sentenced to corrective labor for up to three years. In addition, restriction of liberty or imprisonment for a term of three to five years is provided.

The government justifies the tightened controls by the growing popularity of vapes among teenagers and young people, which prompted the tougher restrictions.

Separately, the article notes that since the beginning of 2025 a ban on smoking in the streets and in public places has been in effect in the Italian city of Milan; violators are fined €40–€240.
