Among smartphones released this week in China, the Oppo A6k stands out with one number — 7000 mAh. That's more than Samsung Galaxy S23 or iPhone 15 Pro flagships had. The difference is that the A6k costs half as much and starts at 1999 yuan (~$290).
What's inside
The foundation is a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chip with 5G support, LPDDR4X RAM, and UFS 2.2 storage. Three configurations: 8 GB + 256 GB for 1999 yuan (~$290), 8 GB + 512 GB for 2199 yuan (~$319), and 12 GB + 256 GB for 2399 yuan (~$348). All variants support microSD expansion.
The display is a 6.75-inch IPS screen with 120 Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 1125 nits. HD+ resolution (1570×720) is a deliberate compromise for the price point: at this screen size, pixel density is only ~258 ppi, which is noticeable when viewing text or photos closely.
Charging — 45W SuperVOOC with support for multiple standards, including UFCS. Cameras: 50 MP main module + 2 MP auxiliary, 8 MP front-facing camera. Water and dust protection — IP64.
Battery as a strategy
Oppo isn't the first: in the same segment, the Poco M7 Plus 5G offers 7000 mAh for ~$150, while the Oppo A6 Pro has the same battery capacity but with a Dimensity 7300 chip and 80W charging starting from 1799 yuan. The A6k in this lineup looks like a compromise between price and charging speed.
"Chinese manufacturers are betting on what really matters — battery life. If the trend takes hold, even budget models will last 2–3 days"
K-Tech News, analysis of 7000+ mAh trend on Chinese market, 2025
According to Gizmochina, most users will have more than a day of battery life, and with moderate use — two days without recharging.
What's missing
- NFC — not listed in specifications
- Stereo speakers — only one speaker
- HD+ instead of FHD+ at 6.75 inches
- 45W charging — compared to 80W on the senior A6 Pro
The smartphone is already available for purchase in China in three colors: Dawn Gold, Twilight Blue, Seashell White. Oppo has not announced release dates for other markets.
If Oppo brings the A6k to the global market at a price comparable to the global A6k version on Snapdragon 685 (~€179), it could change the balance in the budget phone segment with an emphasis on battery life — but only if the company doesn't "raise" the price during localization the way it did with several previous A-series models.
