Amazfit Challenges Garmin and Apple Watch Ultra for $200 Less — But There's a Catch

Balance Ultra with a titanium case and 30 days of battery life costs $599 compared to $849 for the Apple Watch Ultra 2. The difference is substantial, but the watch is going up for pre-order, and there are no real-world tests yet.

Amazfit this week unveiled two smartwatches — Balance 3 ($369,99) and the flagship Balance Ultra ($599,99). Both are already available for pre-order in the United States, with shipping scheduled for mid-June 2026. The event took place in New York — and for good reason: the company is clearly targeting the premium segment, where Garmin and Apple reign.

A price proposition that's hard to ignore

The Balance Ultra is $200 cheaper than the Apple Watch Ultra 2 ($849) and sits in the same league as the Garmin Fenix 8 and Epix. Yet the materials are the same: Grade 5 titanium case, sapphire glass, 1.5" AMOLED display with peak brightness of 3000 nits. Battery life — up to 30 days in normal mode, up to 50 hours in precision GPS mode — exceeds that of direct competitors.

The Balance 3 is more modest: stainless steel instead of titanium, up to 21 days of battery life, dual-frequency GPS with precision navigation mode lasting 41 hours. A titanium case version ($449,99) has only been announced so far — no specific date provided.

What is the Hybrid Training System — and why it's the central idea

Both watches are more than just "hardware": they serve as the foundation for Amazfit's new ecosystem. The system consists of two levels:

  • HybridCharge Energy Intelligence — an algorithm that consolidates training load, daily stress, and sleep into a single readiness metric. The watch recommends when to train harder and when to recover.
  • Zepp App — the "intelligence layer": transforms collected data into specific recommendations regarding workouts, recovery, and sleep.

Special emphasis is placed on HYROX. Amazfit is the official partner of this competition format and has built dedicated tools into both watches: ready-made training plans, race simulation, HYROX Virtual Pacer, and post-race analysis — breakdown by stations, pace, and total finish time.

"Balance Ultra is the engine of the Hybrid Training System, created for strength, endurance, and recovery"

What remains unknown

The claimed 30 days of battery life represents typical usage according to the manufacturer's methodology. Real-world testing of the Balance 2 by TechRadar showed that enabling Always-On display and active GPS reduce battery life to a single week. How much HybridCharge optimizes power consumption will only be revealed by independent reviews following the June shipment.

Another question concerns mapping. Offline navigation and route planning are available, but the level of map detail and the quality of automatic rerouting upon deviation Amazfit currently cannot match Garmin, which offers full Google Maps on higher-end models.

If independent tests confirm at least 15–20 days of real-world battery life with regular training — the Balance Ultra becomes the strongest price argument in the premium segment in years. If not — it's just another attractive spec sheet with astronomical numbers under ideal conditions.
