Galaxy Z Flip 8 in FCC documents: satellite connectivity included, UWB already gone

Samsung has confirmed the registration of the SM-F776U model with the American regulator. Among the new features is support for NB-NTN satellite communication, but the UWB chip locator has disappeared. And this is no accident.

The American model Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 SM-F776U has passed FCC certification — and the documents revealed more than usually happens in such registrations. Among the confirmed features are Wi-Fi 7 with support for the 6 GHz band, Bluetooth, NFC, wireless charging, and reverse wireless charging. But two items deserve special attention.

A satellite in your pocket — no longer just for flagships

FCC documents confirmed support for the NB-NTN B255 standard — technology that allows a smartphone to interact directly with satellites. In other words: connectivity where no tower can reach.

"The integrated 5G modem supports NB-NTN B255 — a band used for communication with satellite networks"

Notebookcheck

This feature previously appeared in the Galaxy S25. Now it's moving into the foldable mid-range segment — which means Samsung is systematically integrating satellite connectivity into its lineup rather than keeping it as an exclusive for top models.

UWB disappeared — and it's noticeable

The previous Flip 7 had an Ultra-Wideband chip for precise positioning and features like a digital car key. In the Flip 8 documents, UWB is absent. According to Notebookcheck data, this is confirmed — no UWB.

Compact foldable phones traditionally sacrifice components for thinness and battery. But UWB specifically gave Flip an advantage over most competitors in home integration — unlocking cars, precise item location through Find My Device. Its absence is a real loss for those who used it.

Two chips for two markets

The model with the letter "U" in its name is American, and, as GSMArena explains, this automatically means a Qualcomm processor. According to leaks, the US and India will receive the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, while South Korea and Europe will get the Exynos 2600, manufactured using a 2-nanometer process based on GAA architecture.

  • Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 — US and Indian markets
  • Exynos 2600 (2 nm, GAA) — Korea and Europe
  • Display: 6.9″ AMOLED, 120 Hz
  • Cameras: 50 MP dual system
  • Battery: 4300 mAh
  • OS: Android 17

The announcement is expected at Galaxy Unpacked in July 2026 — Samsung maintains an annual update cycle for foldable series.

If the Exynos 2600 closely matches the Snapdragon in real-world tests, the split chip strategy will lose its rationale and Samsung will finally be able to shed the reputational burden of the "worse" version for Europe. But if the performance gap persists — the question of why Ukrainian and European buyers pay the same price for a less powerful device will return with renewed force.
