Huawei has presented the Pura X Max — a new foldable smartphone that is a larger version of the Pura X model. The manufacturer's main focus is on enlarged displays and a record-thin body for this form factor.
When folded, the device is 11.2 mm thick — noticeably thinner than most competitors in the large foldable smartphone segment. Huawei positions the Pura X Max as a device for those who find a standard foldable phone screen insufficient, but who value compactness in their pocket.
The Pura X Max launches at a time when the foldable smartphone market is actively growing: Samsung, Google, and OnePlus are expanding their presence in this segment. Huawei, limited by sanctions in accessing Google services and advanced TSMC chips, is betting on hardware design and its own HarmonyOS ecosystem.
The real question is not about specifications, but about accessibility: if Huawei does not expand official sales beyond China, the Pura X Max will remain a demonstration of the company's engineering capabilities — without a chance to compete globally. Whether the company will change this strategy with the launch of the new lineup will be shown by its launch geography.
