Meta has recruited Alan Dye — one of Apple’s leading designers who led the user interface team for more than ten years.
Role at Meta
In his new role, Dye will be responsible for developing AI-powered features for smart glasses and virtual reality headsets. He will report to Meta’s chief technology officer Andrew Bosworth and will begin work on December 31.
Career at Apple
Alan Dye joined Apple in 2006, initially as a creative director in the marketing department. In 2012 he moved to Jony Ive’s team, where he worked on the redesign of iOS 7 and later coordinated major interface updates for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS and visionOS.
He participated in creating the interface for the Vision Pro headset and led the development of the Liquid Glass styling for iOS 26 and macOS 26. Steve Lemay was appointed to Dye’s position at Apple; Tim Cook emphasized that Lemay had played an important role in the company’s interface projects since 1999.
This year Meta also recruited several researchers from OpenAI: one of the heads of Apple’s AI search team moved to the company, and Mark Zuckerberg allegedly personally tried to poach an OpenAI employee by bringing him homemade soup. In addition, information has emerged about the pay levels of engineers, designers and AI specialists at Apple.
