Update rollout
Samsung has begun rolling out One UI 8 Watch for the Galaxy Watch4 and Watch4 Classic smartwatches. For these 2021 models — the company's first devices on Wear OS — this is the last major software update.
The release began in South Korea, with rollout to other markets expected in the coming days. The firmware number for the Galaxy Watch4 is R870XXU1JYK4, and for the Watch4 Classic, R880XXU1JYK4. The download size exceeds 1 GB. It is not yet known whether the update covers LTE-equipped models.
New interface features
The update changes the interface design and adds expanded widget options: you can now place multiple widgets on a single screen. A Now Bar panel has appeared that displays current activities, such as music playback or workouts. The Double Pinch gesture set has been expanded, and new interactive watch faces have been added with elements like a weather forecast or a step counter.
How to install and other announcements
To check for the update, open the Galaxy Wearable app, go to the watch settings, select the software update section, and tap "Download and install".
Besides the watch update, Samsung recently unveiled several new devices: the foldable Galaxy TriFold, the slim Galaxy Fold7, as well as the Galaxy Flip7 and Flip7 FE with 50‑MP cameras and AI voice features. The Flip series was given an estimated starting price of about 40,000 hryvnias. The company announced a presentation in Las Vegas scheduled for January 4.
