In the beta version of the Android ChatGPT app numbered 1.2025.329, strings were found in the code that indicate a possible addition of advertising elements. Among the entries are the terms "ads feature," "search ad" and "bazaar content." This build is not currently available for general use.
Code entries
The discovered code fragments contain function names and markers that are traditionally associated with advertising capabilities in mobile apps. Among them are references to search advertising and content labeled as "bazaar."
Monetization model and update
Earlier discussions considered an implementation of advertising based on chat history or on data stored in the user's memory. Such a model would allow ads to be targeted to individual preferences.
Sam Altman has repeatedly said that advertising could become one of the company's business-model options, but a final decision on the format has not yet been made.
Ad units will most likely appear primarily in the free version of ChatGPT, which currently has limits on the number of messages, access to memory features and model performance.
Recent platform updates include the GPT-5.1 model and the launch of a shopping assistant, which is already operating in Ukraine.
