Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun said the company intends to use humanoid robots in manufacturing processes at its factories over the next five years.
Plans for factories
As an example, he cited an electric vehicle plant where inspection of large cast parts is now performed by a system using X-rays and computer vision algorithms. Such a system completes the operation in about two seconds and outperforms humans in speed and accuracy.
Lei Jun estimates that widespread adoption of automation could create a new market worth around one trillion yuan (approximately $140 billion). According to him, this model can be realized not by individual companies but only through partnerships among industry players.
Developments in the field
The company unveiled its first humanoid, CyberOne, in 2022 and continues to develop this area. Lei Jun also said that robots will be used not only in factories but also in households, where performance requirements will be even higher.
Recently Xiaomi explained possible reasons for price increases on new smartphones, and in China there were displays of hundreds of robots marching prior to being shipped.
