National amputee football captain takes her first steps on a new prosthesis: veterans of the Bilohorod community return to full lives

The first veterans of the Bilohorodka community are already at the final stage of prosthetic fitting. Today two more female residents received an initial consultation at MSOR Ukraine — and one of them was already walking on a new prosthesis the same day.

Olga Benda: from Avdiivka — to her first steps

Olga Benda — a veteran, captain of the Ukrainian women's national amputee football team, coordinator of «Active Parks» and ambassador of the Ukrainian Veterans Fund. Before her service she practiced track and field. In 2016 she went to fight. In 2017, near Avdiivka, she suffered a severe wound and lost a leg.

Today Olga was fitted with a modern prosthesis together with a prosthetic socket — and that same day she took her first steps on the new prosthesis.

Oleksandra Zolotukhina: a dream to feel both hands

Oleksandra Zolotukhina — goalkeeper of the Ukrainian national amputee football team and Olga's teammate. She was born without an arm. Her dream is simple: to live without limits, to play and to win. Today she underwent an initial consultation — the first step toward making that dream a reality.

Mykhailo Melnyk — already at the next stage

Veteran and employee of the Bilohorod village council Mykhailo Melnyk has already received a prosthetic socket and is going through the next stages of prosthetic care to fully stand on both legs.

Not just medicine

Village head Anton Ovsienko personally met with the founder of MSOR and stressed: for the community this is not a formal collaboration but real support for people who gave their health for Ukraine. The community will continue to do everything to ensure veterans have the maximum opportunities for recovery.
