The Orlivka checkpoint on the border with Romania was attacked by Shahed-type strike drones at night. Direct hits on the building and territory caused fires, which rescue workers subsequently contained, according to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
The processing of citizens and vehicles has been temporarily suspended. Transport is being redirected to other checkpoints – border guards urge citizens to take this into account when planning their routes.
Why this specific crossing
"Orlivka" is not just one of many checkpoints. It is a crossing that provides ferry connections with Romania across the Kilia Arm of the Danube. For residents and businesses in southern Odesa, it is essentially the only direct land-water route to an EU country without a multi-hour detour through other crossings.
The SBGS emphasized that this is not the first strike on this checkpoint. The repeated nature of the attacks indicates deliberate pressure on the region's logistics infrastructure, rather than random targeting.
