On the night of August 5, Russia attacked Ukraine with 28 missiles — 24 ballistic Iskander-M/S-400 type missiles and 4 anti-ship Zircon/Onyx missiles, as well as 115 strike drones. This was reported by the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The missiles were launched from Bryansk and Kursk regions, drones — from the directions of Kursk, Millerovo, Oryol, as well as from temporarily occupied Donetsk and Crimea. Among the unmanned aircraft are Shahed, Gerber, Italmaz and Parody decoy drones.

The defense against the attack was provided by aviation, air defense missile forces, electronic warfare units and drone systems, as well as mobile fire groups.
According to preliminary data, as of 08:30, air defense destroyed/suppressed 98 enemy UAVs of the Shahed, Gerber, Italmaz types and other types of drones in the north, south and east of the country. Direct hits from missiles and 17 strike UAVs were recorded at 26 locations, as well as the fall of destroyed debris at 6 locations

Data on the missiles is being clarified. At the time of publication, isolated enemy drones remained in airspace.
Consequences in Kyiv Region
As a result of the strike on the Kyiv region, 14 people were killed and 27 more were injured. The region became the main target of the night attack.
The scale of the means employed — a combination of ballistic missiles, anti-ship missiles and drone swarms in a single sortie — indicates an attempt to overload the air defense system simultaneously with several types of targets. The question is whether Ukraine will be able to increase the pace of ballistic interceptions, where the destruction rate is traditionally lower than against drones.
