In Kyiv, following intensified shelling, insurance companies have begun to more carefully assess military risks. This is reported in an article by LIGA.net.
Insurers in the capital offer various insurance products for real estate or vehicles that may be damaged due to military operations.
"It is important to understand that an insurer does not assume unlimited risk. Therefore, even in Kyiv, territorial, temporal, and financial restrictions, liability limits, and a list of specific military events recognized as insurable incidents may be established," said Sergiy Lytvynenko, managing partner of Winner Partners JSC.
Insurance company Universalna noted that insurance in the capital remains available, but with stricter selection criteria.
"Following the recent escalation of shelling, approaches to underwriting have been substantially revised: the list of areas available for insurance has been reduced, and coverage for large industrial and warehouse facilities has been suspended," the company stated.
The company clarified that this does not refer to administrative districts of Kyiv, but rather to areas of increased risk: if an underwriter believes that an apartment faces too great a risk of being hit by shelling, the client may be denied insurance.
"We constantly analyze the frequency and nature of losses, the concentration of risks, and accumulated statistics – and based on this, we adjust our products and tariffs," said Mykola Matyka, director of the retail sales department of insurance company INGO.
Pavlo Stefanets, deputy chairman of the board for business development at Arsenal Insurance, added that when determining the cost and terms of coverage, they assess proximity to critical and military infrastructure and the history of strikes around the facility.
