Fortress of Renewal: Veterans' Space Being Built in Bucha Set to Become a National Model

This is not just new walls — it’s an ecosystem of respect for those who have endured the hell of war. More than 80,000 veterans already live in Kyiv region, and their return to civilian life requires action, not words. In Bucha, construction is in full swing on a large-scale veterans’ hub with a shelter and rehabilitation zones, the progress of which was personally inspected by the head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration (KOVA), Mykola Kalashnyk.

Investment in people, not in concrete

Construction in Bucha — is part of a systematic state strategy funded by a state subsidy as well as regional and local budgets. The project is being implemented under the auspices of the Ministry for Veterans Affairs. The goal is ambitious: to create a space where the term "adaptation" stops being a bureaucratic phrase and becomes real assistance.

The future complex has been designed to meet the key needs of defenders "here and now." It will consist of two functional blocks:

  • Physical recovery block: a modern gym and areas for active rehabilitation.
  • Social adaptation block: psychologists' offices, a coworking space for study and work, conference halls and even a children's area so veterans can come here with their families.

Accessibility as a new standard of dignity

The project places special emphasis on total inclusivity. No stairs without ramps or narrow doorways. Everything is designed with the needs of people who have disabilities as a result of the war in mind.

"More than 80,000 veterans live in the Kyiv region, about 13,000 of whom are people with disabilities. Creating such spaces is critically necessary. The facility is under constant supervision: quality and deadlines are priority No. 1."

Safety and community

The space extends beyond the building. A reliable shelter is being arranged nearby, which is a basic requirement of the times. The surrounding area will become a place for informal interaction: there will be walkways, relaxation zones and courts for playing pétanque.

This project continues the successful trend of creating "places of strength" in the region. Recall that a similar hub was previously opened in Myronivka, where defenders receive legal and psychological support. Now Bucha takes up the baton, creating the infrastructure our Heroes have long awaited.
