Non‑pro‑Ukrainian points were removed from the so‑called peace plan proposed by the United States. President Volodymyr Zelensky said this while speaking with journalists.
Changes in the document
The head of state was asked whether the document shown to him by Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Rustem Umerov differs from the one that existed after the talks in Geneva and Miami.
They are different plans, although the base is the same. There were 28 points; now there are 20. They aligned that direction. And, frankly, those openly non‑pro‑Ukrainian points were dropped
– Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine
Search for compromises
Zelensky added that the Americans are intent on finding compromises. However, the head of state stressed: no compromise on territories has yet been found.
As for reconstruction – that concerns money. And here we cannot ignore the European viewpoint
– Volodymyr Zelensky
The president clarified that he discussed this today with leaders of European countries. Therefore, involving Europe in this dialogue is important.
Context
Negotiations aimed at settling the war continue with the United States acting as the primary mediator. Earlier versions of the plan provoked criticism in Ukraine because of clauses that could have limited the country's sovereignty or formalized Russia's territorial gains. The reduction of the document from 28 to 20 points and the removal of non‑pro‑Ukrainian provisions was the result of Kyiv's active diplomatic work.
