Ukraine's men's tennis team defeated Cyprus 3:1 in the Second World Group of the Davis Cup and advanced to the playoff of the First World Group. Georgy Kravchenko brought the decisive point to the Ukrainians, reports the Tennis Federation of Ukraine, writes UNN.
In the fourth match of the confrontation, Kravchenko faced Cyprus's top-ranked player Melios Efstathiou. The Ukrainian crushed his opponent in two sets – 6:0, 6:1. The match lasted 1 hour and 25 minutes.
For 26-year-old Kravchenko, this was his debut match for the national team in the Davis Cup. On the first day of the confrontation, he also defeated Fotios Fotiadis – 6:4, 6:1. Alexey Krutykh brought another point to Ukraine, defeating Efstathiou – 6:2, 1:6, 6:4.
Ukraine to play in playoffs in 2027
The only loss for the Ukrainians came in the doubles match. Vladislav Orlov and Alexander Ovcharenko lost to Stillianos Christodoulou and Eleftherios Neos – 3:6, 4:6.
Thanks to the victory over Cyprus, Ukraine's national team earned the right to play in the playoff of the First World Group of the Davis Cup in 2027. The team will learn its opponent after the completion of the current competition cycle.
