In Kyiv’s Obolon district, a 23-year-old electric car driver, allegedly intoxicated, fatally struck a 13-year-old girl on a pedestrian crossing. The man was detained and charged; the court ordered pretrial detention.

"The traffic accident occurred last Friday at about 21:15 in the Obolon district. The 23-year-old electric car driver, while descending from the bridge from Bohatyrska Street toward Obolon Avenue, ran over a 13-year-old girl who was crossing the road at an unregulated crossing. The victim died at the scene."

According to the account of the incident, the driver was traveling from the Bohatyrska side down the bridge toward the avenue when he struck the child. The victim died from her injuries at the scene.
Actions by law enforcement
The suspect was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. By outward signs he appeared to be intoxicated, but he refused to undergo a Dräger breathalyzer test.
Investigators are awaiting the results of forensic examinations. Under the procedural supervision of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office, the man was notified of suspicion under part 3 of Article 286‑1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — violation of road traffic safety rules by a person in a state of intoxication that caused death.
At the investigators' request, the court ordered the suspect held in pretrial detention. For the charged criminal act he faces up to ten years in prison.

Separately, proceedings continue in another high-profile case concerning a fatal traffic accident involving a former prosecutor’s office employee; the prosecution under Attorney General Kravchenko is seeking a 10-year prison sentence for the defendant.
