Strongest in Five Years

"In the last five years, we have never experienced such a powerful earthquake."

– stated the country's environmental advisor, Saida Rizwana Hasan.

Casualties and Injuries

Three people died from falling fences and debris in the Armanitola area, reported Deputy Police Commissioner Mallick Ahsan Uddin Sami. A total of 461 injuries have been recorded across the country, including 252 in Gazipur, north of Dhaka, noted Nitai Chandra De Sarkar, the director of the monitoring department.

"Our main task at the moment is to assess the casualties and damages. So far, we do not see difficulties with rescue operations or clearing debris at this level."

– added De Sarkar.

Eyewitness Accounts

Local residents and visitors described their experiences of the earthquake.

"I have never felt such an earthquake in my 30 years of life. We were in the office when the furniture started shaking."

– said Sadman Sakib to Reuters.

The tremors were also felt in the eastern states of India, but no serious damage has been reported there. It is worth noting that recently, four earthquakes shook the coast of Indonesia within the last 24 hours.
