The Lithuanian Ministry of Defence has signed an agreement with Saab Dynamics for the delivery of a third MSHORAD short-range air defence system. The total contract value exceeds €119 million.

System composition

The configuration includes a Giraffe 1X 3D radar, the laser-guided RBS 70 NG launcher and a command-and-control post. Armoured JLTV 4×4 vehicles are planned for mounting the elements, and a separate agreement for integrating the equipment onto these platforms has been concluded for approximately €11 million.

The Giraffe 1X radar provides 360-degree coverage at ranges of more than 75 km and is designed to detect low-altitude aerial targets: drones, helicopters and cruise missiles.

The RBS 70 NG launcher has an engagement range of up to 9 km and can engage targets at altitudes above 5 km. The system is equipped with a thermal imaging sight and an automatic target-tracking system.

Timeline and cost

Deliveries of the ordered system are scheduled for the period 2026–2029. Separately, it is reported that the Swedish manufacturer intends to set up production of similar systems in Ukraine, which in 2026 plans to allocate a record UAH 955 billion for the procurement and production of arms.
