On July 24 in the afternoon, two Russian ballistic missiles hit a private range in the Bucha district of Kyiv region. At that moment, a defense products exhibition was taking place there with representatives of the Ukrainian defense-industrial complex. According to the State Emergency Service, rescue operations have been completed.

What is known about the losses

A total of 10 people were killed, with approximately 100 sustaining injuries of varying severity — these figures were confirmed by Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko. 23 houses and 34 vehicles were damaged. Rescuers extinguished fires in three private residential buildings.

"As a result of the attack, 10 people were killed, with dozens more injured."

Strike on a publicly announced event

Key context: announcements about the weapons exhibition at an open range were circulated on the internet. Founder of First Contact company and military officer Valery Borovyk was the first to report the strike, confirming that the attack coincided with the event's location.

Presidential advisor on the development of technological defense directions Sergiy Beskrestnov (Flash) clarified that he was not at the range and had not planned to attend. In his comment, he directly named the risks that forced him to decline participation: lack of shelter, public announcement online, large number of participants, and early announcement of the location.

Interim head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration Ruslan Oliynyk confirmed that the strike hit "the territory of a private range where events were taking place" and reported the opening of criminal proceedings.

Type of weapon

Spokesman for the Air Force Yuriy Ihnat stated during a telethon broadcast that the range was hit by two ballistic missiles. The information was being verified. President Zelensky confirmed the strike without specifying the type of missiles.

  • 23 residential houses damaged
  • 34 vehicles damaged
  • Fires extinguished in 3 private buildings
  • 10 killed, approximately 100 wounded

The Ukrainian Arms Makers Council confirmed the strike and emphasized that it was not the organizer of the event, although its representatives were present at the location.

If the investigation confirms that the Russians guided the strike based on a public internet announcement — the question will arise not only about the responsibility of the organizers, but also about the systemic practice of conducting open defense-industrial complex events near Kyiv within range of ballistic missiles.
