On the night of August 1, during a Russian attack, two missiles hit the production facility of the construction company "Avtostrada" in Kyiv. The company's owner Maksym Shkil announced this on his Facebook page.
As a result of the strike, two company employees were killed, and another was wounded and hospitalized without life-threatening injuries.
The air raid warning sounded after the explosion, so the two killed workers did not have time to reach shelter. Most of the facility's personnel were in shelters at the time of the strike, which helped prevent greater casualties.
Over 20 units of equipment were damaged or destroyed, including a concrete plant, a service center for equipment repair, production facilities, a laboratory complex, and a residential town for workers. The facility's personnel provided first aid to the injured and localized the fire that broke out after the strike on their own – this prevented the fire from spreading to the rest of the production facilities.
Avtostrada is one of Ukraine's largest road infrastructure companies. In Kyiv, it is building two metro stations in Vynohradar, performing major repairs on Kharkiv Highway, and carrying out work on the construction of the Podil bridge crossing.
Scale of the attack
- On August 1, during a massive attack, Russia launched 35 missiles at Ukraine, of which 27 were ballistic, and 185 strike drones. The main target of the attack was Kyiv, but there were hits in other regions as well: in Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Poltava regions.
- As a result of the strike, the Velmart hypermarket on the left bank of Kyiv (Bereznyaky) was damaged, Rozetka's warehouse where an employee was killed, the Ranok publishing house and the KnyhoLend bookstore chain, and the Rozum board game publisher were damaged. Ambulances at one of the Kyivmedspectrans parking lots were also destroyed.
The strike on the production facility of a company that simultaneously builds metro stations, repairs highways, and constructs a bridge crossing demonstrates that infrastructure contractors remain on the list of targets outside the front line.
