The station, currently bearing the project name «Mostytska», will be renamed before its opening, reported Tymish Martynenko-Kushliansky, a member of Kyiv's Commission on Naming.
Reason for the name change
The current name is a working title and does not reflect the actual location of the facility: the future platform will be several kilometres from the Mostytskyi residential area. The station is being built at the intersection of Bilytska, Mezhova and Viktor Nekrasov streets, so historically connected geographical names were proposed for it. Residents have repeatedly asked to review the project designation, including through electronic petitions.
Completion of construction is planned for next year; it will be the next station after «Syrets» on the Green line of the metro. Because the name will appear on the track wall and in the navigation system, it was decided to make the correction before the facility is commissioned — this will not require additional expenses for Kyiv residents, since «Mostytska» exists only in the project documentation.
Options for the new name
After consultations with historians and urban studies experts, the commission selected three options from which the city's residents will choose:
- Rohostynska — associated with the Rohostynka River and the historical name of the land unit "Rohostynska", references to which date back to the 15th century; in the 19th century a hamlet called Rohostynka developed in this area.
- Rohoziv Yar — named after the natural tract Rohoziv Yar, which is located next to the future station.
- Zamkovyshche — from the historic locality that is part of the ancient tract Syrezhchyna; in the 17th century Catholic priors had residences here, and its development as a residential district began at the end of the 19th century.
Procedure for selecting the name
The final option will be determined in 2026 by ranked voting in the «Kyiv Digital» app. The option that receives the most votes will be approved by the Commission on Naming and a recommendation will be sent to the mayor for consideration by the Kyiv City Council.
